Dear patients,

Over the last two weeks we have seen a drastic increase in the number of admissions of COVID-19 positive patients to our Clinics. 5 specific care units for COVID-19 patients are open on our two hospital sites.

Your safety is paramount to us. We must ensure that everything is systematically done to protect you during your hospitalisation. This is why the Hospital Coordination Unit of the Emergency Plan of the Europe Hospitals decided this morning to ban all visits to our hospitalized patients from Saturday 24th October.

We take this decision reluctantly. We know that this is an extremely difficult measure for you and your family, but it is the only solution to guarantee your safety and to avoid your exposure to the virus.

The only exceptions are visits to the following services, but with defined limitations:

  • Maternity and Neonatology
  • Pediatrics
  • Intensive Care
  • Patients at the end of life

We thank you for your understanding in these difficult times.

On behalf of the entire Management
Peter Fontaine
Chief Executive Officer - Managing Director

Exception "Maternity"

At the time of the birth, the partner chooses between 2 types of visiting arrangements:

  • Staying in the room 24 hours a day for the duration of the hospital stay (if it is a private room). Traffic in the corridors of the maternity ward must be kept to a minimum ;
  • If the partner prefers not to stay in the room 24 hours a day, he or she may visit once a day without any time limit. In this case it is not possible to spend the night in the room. The visit can only take place in the room, not in the corridors. Additional visits are not allowed;
  • Children are not allowed.

Exception "Neonatology"

Both parents can come and visit.

Exception "Paediatrics"

  • A parent or tutor can choose between 2 types of visits in the event of a hospitalisation:

  • 1. Staying in the room 24 hours a day for the duration of the hospital stay. Movement in the corridors of the paediatric ward must be kept to a minimum. If the parent or tutor prefers not to stay in the room 24 hours a day, he or she may visit the room once a day without any time limit. In this case, it is not possible to spend the night in the room. The visit can only take place in the room, not in the corridors. Additional visits are not permitted.
    2. If one parent stays overnight, the other parent or a second adult may visit once a day during official visiting hours. During the day, visits are permitted from 3pm to 7pm and the duration is 1.5 hours. Additional note: if another parent decides to take over even temporarily he or she must also be given a screening questionnaire.

  • Paediatric activities are interrupted until further notice.

Exception "Intensive Care"

Maximum 1 adult/per day/per patient and always with prior medical approval.

Exception "Patients at the End of Life"

Maximum 1 adult/per day/per patient and always with prior medical approval.

Visit to hospitalized patients at the End of Life and "COVID-19 positive"

Even for a COVID-19 patient, it must also be possible for family members to be able to say goodbye to him/her at the hospital. A maximum effort must be made to ensure that first-degree relatives are able to say goodbye to their end-of-life family member. We therefore ask you to respect the following measures:

  • A maximum of 2 adult persons will be admitted, during a single visit to the patient ;
  • The visit is limited to 1 hour as far as possible;
  • Family members are not allowed to touch the patient and must wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
