You may also call the unit 24/7 to get information about your relative, but we do ask that you make such calls between 8am and 10am.

For reasons of medical confidentiality, we only provide small amounts of information over the phone, and only to the patient’s closest relatives. More detailed information can be provided during visiting hours.

We ask that you limit the number of family contact persons to two or three and that you appoint one among yourselves to collect information relating to your relative and to share such information with the rest of the family and friends. This facilitates the organisation of our work and allows us to be more available for the patients.

WHO IS PART OF THE TEAM?

As with other medical specialisations, intensive care involves specific training to handle the various problems that can lead to a patient being admitted in the Intensive Care Ward.

As long as the patient stays in the ward, the intensive care doctor is responsible for treating the patient and making the relevant therapeutic decisions.

Regardless of the time of day, a specialised doctor is present on site to monitor the treatments. Often, it is a member of the medical staff attached to the ward. Sometimes, it is another specialised doctor who has the skills and training to ensure the continuity of healthcare and the management of new problems.

The nursing team is present 24/7 at the patient’s bedside and identifies his/her needs, provides healthcare, administers treatments and helps with the various examinations and analyses requested by the doctors.

Other healthcare professionals, such as physiotherapists, psychologists or social workers also play an important role within the team.

The patients are cared for 24/7 by a multidisciplinary team.
