Paediatrics

Paediatric services are only available at the site St-Elisabeth. Telephone.: 02 614 29 25 Visiting times: for the parents from 08:00 to 20:00, and 14:00 to 20:00 for the rest of family.

Admission to Paediatrics

Children from a few days to 15 years old suffering from a wide range of problems are treated on this ward. They may need monitoring, intravenous hydration, intravenous antibiotic therapy or repetitive treatment.
Parents of children requiring surgical interventions may accompany them into the preoperative ward, and wait for them in the recovery room when they return from the operating theatre.
For the majority of investigations the parents may be present, but it is not always possible to give a precise time when these investigations will take place.
The staff of the Paediatric Department give full explanations and advice to all parents to enable them to carryout basic treatment and care routines.
The nurses and doctors of the Emergency Ward pay special attention to pain relief in the young patients. Various techniques and employ a holistic approach to the treatment.

Admission to the Neonatal Department

The Neonatal Ward treats premature infants, and those infants demonstrating medical problems at the birth. Parents may visit these children at any time of the day.

BAMBI: Ambulant Care, site St-Elisabeth

The ambulant care unit has three observation beds for stays of a few hours. A nurse and monitoring systems treat patients with concussion, mild dehydration, etc.
The unit also undertakes paediatric, and endocrine investigations, as well as allergy testing and blood sampling.

Infrastructure

There is a playroom with toys, videos and books for the children.
The unit and the Maternity Ward are situated next to each other on the 1st floor.
Having the two units close to each other means that the new mothers can be treated and visit their child at any time they wish.
After a certain age it is possible to install a webcam and screen in the child’s room with a corresponding piece of equipment either in the home or in the work place so that contact can be maintained even from a distance.

Entertainment

Every Tuesday and Thursday happy clowns visit the rooms in cooperation with the medical staff to visit the children in their sickbeds. One of the nurses organises these visits and ensures decorations in accordance with the time of year, Xmas etc.

The unit is accessible for the parents between 08:00 and 20:00 and from 14:00 to 20:00 for the rest of the family. The Premature Baby Unit is open for the parents all day long.
